The Truth Behind The Taglines: Say it like it is!

A good logo is the best impression of a Brand. And when a tagline goes with it, it really conveys the essence of the business or the ultimate goal of the company. It is really amazing the way you can speak volumes about a product, just by adding a tagline with the logo, and the way they connect with people is astounding. A strong tagline can really get through to people, and emphasize a company’s motive, their business criteria, and how the customers can associate with the brand.

Take Nike, for example. Underneath the logo they say ‘Just do it’, it accentuates the sportsman’s spirit of always going for the challenge and always giving it your best shot – win or lose, you have just got to do it!

So, it is an established fact that logo designs, along with their smart taglines are a sure way to reel in the customers, because their interests can be piqued by adding a few clever words, a relatable phrase. But sometimes, the experience is not always as is promised. When it comes to product vs brand, the consumers get a very different feel of the service once they’ve used it. Let’s see how we have given some famous brands a unique touch.

• Pepsi

Original Tagline: Drink it to believe it!

The new logo that now accompanies the name of this drink has been done in such a way that many people perceived it as a fat guy who couldn’t stand straight or see his feet, for that matter. So, this tagline seems quite appropriate, considering the obese guy in the logo!

• Internet Explorer

Original Tagline: Fast is now beautiful!

It is true that internet explorer was probably used first by many, but people no longer see it as their first choice. This is what the logo should claim now.

• Target

Original Tagline: Eat Well. Pay Less

Seems like the people who don’t want to go to Walmart stores or think that they don’t need everything on sale, will go to Target to get their stuff. They are basically the Walmart leftover customers who make their way to Target, to get the same things but in slightly higher prices.

• Apple Macintosh

Original Tagline: Think Different!

With every conceivable app built in the cell phones, these days just keeping track of all the features available in the latest versions of Apple’s products, is a job in itself. You can have everything you want, and everything you don’t need!

• Yellow Pages

Original Tagline: Let your fingers do the walking.

As ancient as the yellow pages have become, nobody actually uses them nowadays, much less need them – with everything from emergency numbers to the pizza parlor on the other side of the planet, programmed in the cell phones. The yellow pages are just turning more yellow with time. Literally!

• Netflix

Original Tagline: It just might bring everyone together

Searching online for good TV content and movies was never easy, and neither do the NETFLIX people make it such. You want something, search for it!

• Cheerios

Original Tagline: Go with Cheerios!

The well-known cereal has rings that are the same bland flavor, but, is somehow, quite popular with little kids for breakfast. The fact remains that they don’t actually have a taste to make them stand out; yet, the brand does. Clearly, luck is on their side!

• Ikea

Original Tagline: Change Begins At Home

Even though getting things through IKEA maybe cheaper, but at the expense of serving time and energy at building and assembling items that should just come completely done, doesn’t seems like a fair exchange. However, the brand still goes pretty strong for thousands of people across the world. What can we say? It’s their time.

• Froot Loops

Original Tagline: Follow your nose, it always knows

As anybody who has had a bowl of Froot Loops will tell you, eating saccharine coated loops in the name of healthy eating is not my idea of a breakfast, but that’s what it is in the entire box. And we still love it.

• Red Lobster

Original Tagline: Fresh Fish – Live Lobster

Although, people have been known to go to this restaurant, not for the sea food for which it boasts, but for the sides that are offered with the main dishes.

• Monopoly

Original Tagline: Own it All!

This is the meanest board game that has always been known for its tendency of ending in bad moods and potential fights because of the ‘monopoly’ in it.

• Urban Outfitters

Original Tagline: Always open, always awesome

The faded cloth look and the country style shirts give this brand its distinct look, yet nobody would ever guess you are wearing designer clothes. Such is their style, and that’s what they are famous for.

• Chapstick

Original Tagline: Never let your lips go naked

The tube is convenient to keep in small pockets but that’s what makes it so easy to lose, too.

• Resolve

Original Tagline: Deep Cleaning Power

For a wonder working carpet cleaner, you can’t get better than RESOLVE, because it’s tough on stains, but it is also tough to use, when you find out that you cannot really ‘spray’ it at your carpet ’cause it does not spray when it is facing down!

• Hersheys

Original Tagline: A palatable confection and a most nourishing food

A mouth-watering chocolate for sure, and the bag of kisses is just a bag of happiness if you are a chocolate lover, too. You just can’t stop your hand going back for more… and more… and mmmm…..

• Airbnb

Original Tagline: Travel Like a Human

They claim to make our travel like a local tour…that is saying something, considering that a local experience isn’t something we want when we travel. We want to feel thrilled by the experience.

• Foursquare

Original Tagline: Explore the world around you

An amazing mobile app that lets you discover unique locations you would love based on the recommendations of thousands who would have visited that place already. It really works wonders for the clueless like me.

Truth be told, if you are a smart-phone savvy and fashion conscious person, then I am sure you would agree with most of these taglines which are based on complete honesty. Don’t forget to share it with friends and tell us some clever taglines of your own for any of above mentioned brands. We await some laughter!
